UEFA: All 55 European Federations Vote to Boycott FIFA Over World Cup Privatization
On July 30, 2026, UEFA held an emergency meeting and announced a unanimous boycott of all FIFA competitions in response to President Gianni Infantino's plan to partially privatize the World Cup. All 55 UEFA member associations rejected without qualification the proposal to sell 20% of a new commercial subsidiary, valued at $20 billion, to private investors. A vote among FIFA's 211 member associations is scheduled for September 19, 2026. The first competition threatened is the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil.
