Newcastle United are in advanced talks with Benfica to sign right-back Amar Dedic, who is valued at about £30 million, according to BBC Sport.

Newcastle have been seeking a new right-back since Kieran Trippier’s departure. The former England international joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on a free transfer after his Newcastle contract expired this summer.

Tino Livramento, another option at right-back, remains unavailable because of a calf injury sustained while on England duty in June. If the transfer is completed in time, Dedic could feature in Newcastle’s opening match against Liverpool on August 23, 2026.

Dedic’s background

Dedic, 23, is already familiar with Newcastle’s coaching staff. He worked with manager Matthias Jaissle at RB Salzburg, where they helped the club retain the Austrian Bundesliga title in 2023.

At international level, Dedic has made 31 appearances for Bosnia and Herzegovina. He started three of his country’s four matches at the World Cup.
