Elif Nur Turhan switches promoters as Caroline Dubois unification fight moves closer

Turkish lightweight world champion Elif Nur Turhan has signed with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), which also represents Britain’s Caroline Dubois. According to the BBC, the move brings a unification fight between the two champions closer, although no such bout has been announced.

Turhan was previously signed to Matchroom Boxing. She is moving to MVP under a new strategic alliance between the two promotional companies.

The 31-year-old has won all 14 of her professional bouts, including eight inside the distance. She holds the International Boxing Federation lightweight title; the IBF is one of professional boxing’s four major sanctioning bodies.

Caroline Dubois’s next title defence

Londoner Caroline Dubois will defend her WBC and WBO lightweight titles against American challenger Amelia Moore on August 29 in Birmingham. The bout will take place on an all-women card.

American WBA lightweight champion Stephanie Han is also signed to MVP. Turhan, Dubois and Han therefore represent three lightweight titleholders on the promoter’s roster.

An alliance between promoters

MVP announced its partnership with Matchroom last month. The agreement is intended to create more opportunities for women across both rosters, including allowing them to compete on events staged by the other promoter.

Turhan is the second champion mentioned as moving from Matchroom to MVP after Australia’s Skye Nicolson, a world champion in two weight divisions.

In July, MVP also merged with the Professional Fighters League. The combined organisation brings together more than 300 boxing and mixed martial arts fighters.

What the promoter said

MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said Turhan’s signing would make it possible to stage some of boxing’s most attractive fights.
