Venezuela: Death Toll from Double Earthquake Reaches 6,438
The death toll from the double earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24 has reached 6,438, according to figures announced Monday by Parliament President Jorge Rodriguez. The previous official count stood at 6,301 as of August 10. The two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, triggered the collapse of at least 190 buildings. Nearly 60,000 homes were affected by the disaster, with more than 24,000 now uninhabitable. Thousands of residents continue to live in temporary camps, often in precarious conditions, while rescue workers search for remaining bodies in the rubble. The government has not released figures on the number of missing persons.
