Forest Fire in the Chiemgau Alps: Major Rescue Operation in Unterwössen
A forest fire has been burning since July 30, 2026 near Lackenbergwand in Unterwössen, located in the Chiemgau Alps in Bavaria, Germany. The fire is burning in the difficult-to-access summit area of the Hochwand, requiring a major emergency response. Water-dropping helicopters have been deployed to combat the flames. The region's population was alerted to heavy smoke emissions on the morning of July 30. The operation is being coordinated by the Kreisfeuerwehrverband Traunstein, the firefighters' association for the Traunstein district.
