Ukrainian strikes force Russia to import more fuel as refining capacity falls
Ukrainian long-range drone strikes have reduced Russia’s refining capacity, causing domestic shortages and rationing, The Guardian reports. Russia bought 200,000 barrels of petrol from Turkey this week, its first such purchase from the country. Moscow also agreed to have Russian crude processed at the Kondensat refinery in western Kazakhstan, with 70% of the resulting fuel sent back to Russia. At least six Russian regions restricted petrol sales in August. Ukraine carried out 18 attacks on Russian refineries during the month, matching July’s record.
