Kirsty Hanson has joined Tottenham from Aston Villa during the summer transfer window. The fee was not disclosed, according to BBC Sport.

The 28-year-old Scotland forward scored 12 goals in 22 Women's Super League matches last season. Only Khadija Shaw and Alessia Russo scored more.

Hanson scored in her first pre-season appearance for Tottenham. Her new club will begin its WSL season at home to West Ham on September 6.

Her record at Aston Villa

Aston Villa finished ninth in the WSL last season, with Hanson scoring 43% of the team's goals.

Among the league's five leading scorers, she recorded the highest proportion of shots on target at 50%.

Hanson also created 16 chances. Only two of her Aston Villa teammates recorded more.

She had more touches in the opposition penalty area than any other Aston Villa player.

After initially joining on loan in 2022, Hanson spent four seasons with Aston Villa. She scored 26 goals in 100 appearances.

She was also named Aston Villa's player of the season twice.

Martin Ho's role

Tottenham's new head coach, Martin Ho, had made Hanson a priority target during the transfer window.

Ho previously worked with her as an assistant coach at Manchester United between 2020 and 2023.

Hanson said Tottenham's ambition and progress, along with Ho's appointment, influenced her decision to join.

She regards Ho as one of the best coaches she has worked with.

Tottenham's objectives

Tottenham finished fifth in the WSL last season. The club are now targeting a top-three place and qualification for the Women's Champions League.

Tottenham have also signed Shekiera Martinez from West Ham, Alice Sombath from Lyon and Victoria Pelova from Arsenal this summer.

Hanson's career

Before joining Aston Villa, Hanson helped Manchester United develop their professional women's team but struggled to secure regular playing time.

The forward has scored six goals in 48 appearances for Scotland.
