Sebastien Pocognoli appointed Scotland head coach, becoming only the second foreign manager
Belgian coach Sebastien Pocognoli, 39, was confirmed as head coach of Scotland’s men’s national team on August 16, 2026. He succeeds Steve Clarke, whose seven-year tenure ended after Scotland exited the World Cup in the group stage. Pocognoli is only the second foreign manager to lead the side, after Germany’s Berti Vogts. The former Monaco and Union Saint-Gilloise coach guided the Brussels club to its first Belgian league title in 90 years in 2024-25. He was introduced to the media alongside Scottish Football Association executives on August 17.
