Mexico: National debate launched on AI and social media for minors
Mexico launched a national debate on July 21, 2026, on the use of artificial intelligence, social media, and digital devices by minors. The government aims to develop an evidence-based legislative proposal. President Claudia Sheinbaum intends to build social consensus rather than impose unilateral restrictions. Over 90% of Mexican adolescents use the internet, and 16 of Mexico's 32 states have already restricted digital technology in basic education.
