Meta reportedly discussed a possible settlement with US states over social media harms
According to court documents, Meta has reached a settlement with the US states bringing the case that provides for payments of up to $16.68 billion and nationwide changes for young users, including default daily time limits and nighttime access restrictions. Twenty-nine states accuse the company, among other things, of designing Facebook and Instagram to make minors dependent and illegally collecting their personal data. Meta rejects the allegations and says it works to protect young people.
