Iran–US tensions: strikes on Larak followed by drone attack on Al Minhad base
The United States struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on August 30, 2026, citing an imminent naval mine threat. The strikes killed two people and injured two others, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency. On August 31, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards retaliated with drones against the US base at Al Minhad in the United Arab Emirates and targeted US facilities and bases in Jordan. A supertanker also struck two mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Abu Dhabi condemned the Iranian attack as a dangerous escalation and a violation of the country’s sovereignty.
