The Super League is Switzerland's top football championship. Less high-profile than the big neighbouring leagues, it nonetheless sends its best clubs into European competitions every season, where they sometimes spring a surprise.
Format and big clubs
The league brings together twelve teams, which compete over a season from August to May. Among the most decorated or prominent clubs: Bern's Young Boys, FC Basel, FC Zürich, Servette, FC Lugano, St. Gallen or Lausanne. Below it, the Challenge League acts as the second tier, with promotion and relegation.
