Swiss salaries are among the highest in the world. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the median gross wage for a full-time job was around 6,800 francs a month in 2022 — half of employees earn more, half less.
No national minimum wage
There is no minimum wage at federal level: the matter falls to collective agreements and the cantons. A few cantons (Geneva, Neuchâtel, Jura, Ticino, Basel-Stadt) have introduced their own minimum wage by popular vote — Geneva's is among the highest in the world.
The 13th salary and take-home pay
Many employees receive a 13th salary, paid at year's end. Beware, however, of take-home pay: health insurance premiums, social contributions (AVS, LPP) and taxes noticeably reduce what lands in the account. A high gross salary does not tell the whole story of the real standard of living.
