Andy Burnham Appointed UK Prime Minister, Seventh in Ten Years
Andy Burnham, 56, was appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on July 20, 2026 by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London. He succeeds Keir Starmer, whose resignation was accepted the same morning. A former Mayor of Greater Manchester since 2017, Burnham became Labour Party leader on July 17, 2026. He is the seventh British Prime Minister in ten years. Outside 10 Downing Street, he promised "the greatest changes in the past 40 years," particularly decentralisation and measures on cost of living.
