Venezuela: Over 4,800 Dead, 15 NGOs Demand Transparency on Humanitarian Aid
A double earthquake struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026, killing over 4,800 people according to an official death toll revised upward on July 15 by the Venezuelan government. Approximately 21,000 people remain displaced, living in makeshift shelters across the country. Fifteen civil society organizations have issued an open letter to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, demanding transparency in the management of post-earthquake humanitarian aid. The signatories denounce alleged obstacles imposed by Venezuelan authorities on access to international relief efforts, and call for a humanitarian response led by civilian authorities with non-discriminatory aid distribution.
