Ryūsuke Hamaguchi sets his new film “Soudain” in a French care home
Ryūsuke Hamaguchi’s 3-hour, 16-minute film “Soudain” was made in France and is set mainly in a French care home for older people. According to Le Temps, it explores the circumstances of care staff, residents and their relatives. Virginie Efira plays director Marie-Lou Fontaine, who considers a new approach to care with the facility’s administrative director. The film presents “humanitude” as both a philosophy of care and a support method developed in the 1990s. Efira and Tao Okamoto received awards at Cannes for their performances in the film.
