Two climbers found dead after suspected fall on Switzerland’s Schalihorn
Two climbers have been found dead on the 3,975-metre Schalihorn above Randa in the Swiss canton of Valais, cantonal police said on August 14, 2026. Their relatives contacted Valais cantonal rescue services on August 13 after receiving no news from them since August 12. An Air Zermatt helicopter located the bodies during a reconnaissance flight on August 13, and rescue teams confirmed both deaths. A fatal fall is considered the probable cause. Formal identification remains under way, while the Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident.
