Bonn waste investigators identify offenders in more than 80% of illegal dumping cases
Bonn has deployed specialist waste investigators, known in German as Abfallermittler, to identify people responsible for illegal dumping. The investigators are attached to the city’s Ordnungsamt. Around 300 cases were opened in the first half of 2026, already more than during all of 2025. Offenders were identified in more than 80% of cases, according to Zeit.de. Investigators search abandoned rubbish for evidence, including labels bearing an address. Bonn describes the initial results as positive. The available information does not specify the penalties faced by those identified.
