Kozo Okamoto, Japanese Red Army militant involved in 1972 Tel Aviv airport attack, dies in Lebanon
Kozo Okamoto, a militant and member of the Japanese Red Army — an extreme-left armed group founded in February 1972 — has died in Lebanon at age 78, according to the New York Times. In 1972, he survived a suicide mission carried out with two other members of the organization at Tel Aviv airport. The Japanese Red Army was then allied with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a Palestinian organization with Marxist-Leninist ideology founded in 1967 by George Habache.
