Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby pardoned nine opposition figures on August 14, 2026, according to Le Monde. They include Succès Masra, a former prime minister and leader of the country’s main opposition party. Masra had spent more than a year serving a 20-year prison sentence. The other eight beneficiaries, all leaders of opposition parties, had been convicted after being accused of plotting an insurrection.
