Kevin Keegan, England's only double Ballon d'Or winner, dies of cancer at 75
Kevin Keegan, the only English player to win the Ballon d'Or twice consecutively (1978 and 1979), died of cancer on July 20, 2026, at the age of 75. His family announced the news on the same day, according to 24 heures and Tribune de Genève. Born February 14, 1951, Keegan won the European Cup with Liverpool in 1977 and three English league titles. He earned 63 caps and scored 21 goals for England between 1972 and 1982. After his playing career, he managed Newcastle United before taking charge of England's national team from 1999 to 2000.
