Waymo opens Swiss subsidiary as Baidu and Uber race for robotaxi market
Waymo, Alphabet's autonomous vehicle subsidiary, has established a subsidiary in Switzerland by registering with the Swiss Commercial Register, according to Neue Zürcher Zeitung on August 8, 2026. The American company is entering a market where competition is emerging with Uber. Baidu, a Chinese internet giant active in artificial intelligence, also plans to launch its autonomous taxis in Switzerland in 2026. In Wuhan, a city of 14 million inhabitants, Baidu's robotaxis are already an integral part of the public transport network.
