Canberra: Three-year suspended sentence for driver who caused motorcyclist's death
Julie Elizabeth Fallon, 54, was sentenced on 27 July 2026 in Canberra to three years' imprisonment suspended after being found guilty of culpable driving causing the death of Simon Smith, 55, in May 2024. Chief Justice Lucy McCallum rejected a custodial sentence, stating it would 'add trauma to trauma'. Fallon will serve her sentence in the community with 300 hours of community service and a driving ban of at least 12 months. The accident on Athllon Drive was caused by impaired vision due to fog and morning sun.
