72-year-old man dies from assault injuries in Sainte-Croix, teenager held in custody
A 72-year-old man assaulted in the night of July 28-29, 2026 in front of El Latino restaurant in Sainte-Croix (Vaud canton) died on August 24, 2026 at CHUV (Vaud University Hospital) in Lausanne from injuries sustained during the attack. The victim was celebrating a friend's birthday when a dispute broke out with several young individuals. The assault resulted in life-threatening injuries and he was placed in a coma. The criminal investigation has now shifted to homicide. A 14-year-old French national residing in the Sainte-Croix region has been identified and placed in provisional detention by order of the Juvenile Court.
