Dolomites hut draws hundreds of tourists after its krapfen go viral
Hundreds of tourists have crowded the Friedrich August mountain hut, 2,300 metres above sea level in Italy’s Dolomites, not for the views but for its krapfen. The traditional doughnuts cost up to €4 each. Some visitors have risen before dawn or camped overnight to buy them before they sell out. Food bloggers and influencers fuelled the rush with tasting videos, while widely shared footage of long queues attracted still more visitors. An anonymous employee called the situation “chaotic”. Italian mountain organisations have criticised algorithms for concentrating tourists at natural sites.
