Carsten Linnemann Named Future Federal Health Minister in Germany
Chancellor Friedrich Merz has designated Carsten Linnemann, the CDU's former General Secretary, as the future Federal Health Minister in Germany. Linnemann, 48, holds a doctorate in economics and replaces Nina Warken, who is taking over the Federal Chancellor's Office. On July 25, 2026, he acknowledged on Instagram that he approaches this position with "tremendous respect" and requested time to deepen his understanding of key issues. He advocates for reducing the number of German health insurance funds from over 90 to approximately 10.
