MV Barima ferry sinking in Guyana: at least 10 dead and 67 rescued
The ferry MV Barima sank during the night of July 19–20, 2026 in northwestern Guyana, with over 100 people aboard. According to the Guyanese government, the provisional death toll was revised to 10 on Monday, July 20, following an initial statement reporting only 2 deaths. A total of 67 survivors were rescued — 41 men, 11 women, and 15 children — with the assistance of a pilot boat mobilized to the scene.
