Fårö, the Swedish island where Ingmar Bergman's spirit lives on
Each summer, film students, cinephiles, and filmmakers converge on Fårö, a small Swedish island in the Baltic Sea, to immerse themselves in the spirit of director Ingmar Bergman. Fascinated by the island's austere landscapes, the Swedish filmmaker lived and shot several of his films there until his death in 2007. From age 60 onward, Bergman gathered his nine children—born to six different women—at his Fårö home. His children continue to preserve his memory on the island to this day.
