Audrey Werro wins European 800m at Birmingham ahead of Keely Hodgkinson
Swiss runner Audrey Werro, 22, has won the women's 800 metres final at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, defeating British runner Keely Hodgkinson and claiming her first major international title. Werro's winning time of 1 minute 54.81 seconds established a new championship record. Hodgkinson, the 24-year-old Olympic champion, took the silver medal but missed out on securing a third consecutive European title. The final took place in front of 23,000 spectators at the packed Alexander Stadium.
