Ukraine: Former Defence Minister Fedorov Calls for Elections in Challenge to Zelensky
Former Ukrainian defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov called for elections and denounced corruption within the country’s leadership in a video published on August 18, 2026. According to Le Monde, he urged Ukraine to “restore the democratic process” despite the war, directly challenging President Volodymyr Zelensky. No Ukrainian political figure had publicly crossed this line since the Russian invasion began. Fedorov’s removal from the government had already precipitated a political crisis in Ukraine.
