Venice Film Festival 2026: Danny Boyle Opens 83rd Edition with 'Ink', Rupert Murdoch Film
Danny Boyle's 'Ink' will open the 83rd edition of the Venice International Film Festival on September 2, 2026, on the Lido. Guy Pearce plays press magnate Rupert Murdoch in a narrative centered on the acquisition of British tabloid The Sun in 1969. The selection, presented by artistic director Alberto Barbera, features Martin McDonagh, Werner Herzog, and Nanni Moretti in official competition. Outside competition, a four-hour documentary on Elon Musk by Alex Gibney is set to premiere, along with a film about Oasis's reunion featuring Liam and Noel Gallagher. Only one female director has been selected for official competition, down from six in 2025.
