Paramount/Warner Bros. Discovery Merger Suspended Through August 17 by Federal Judge
A U.S. federal judge has extended through August 17, 2026 the judicial suspension of the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, an American media and entertainment conglomerate valued at approximately $111 billion. Twelve states have sued to block the deal, citing serious competition risks in the popular films market. The decision arrives despite prior unconditional approval by the Department of Justice. Concerns have also emerged regarding CNN's editorial independence, as the news channel—known for critical coverage of Trump—is included in the deal.
