Christopher Luxon calls urgent party meeting amid leadership speculation
New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has called an urgent meeting of National Party lawmakers in Wellington for Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. local time amid growing speculation about his leadership. The New Zealand Herald reported that MPs had discussed a possible change less than three months before the November 7, 2026 general election. Most polls put National slightly behind the centre-left Labour Party, although the race remains too close to call. Luxon previously survived a closed-door confidence vote in April whose result was not released.
