New South Wales gun buyback to begin November 2, covering up to 274,000 firearms
New South Wales will launch Australia’s first gun buyback announced after the Bondi Beach terrorist attack on November 2, ABC News reports. The reforms could affect up to 274,000 firearms and about 50,000 licence holders. Initial fixed payments will range from A$450 to A$1,000, while a later process will offer up to A$10,000 for higher-value firearms. The state and federal governments will split the buyback and administration costs equally. The scheme will not operate across all of Australia, with several states and territories rejecting it or yet to commit.
