Megafire in Gironde: 42,000 hectares devastated, fewer hotspots on July 30

A megafire has devastated 42,000 hectares in Gironde over more than a week. On July 31 morning, the prefecture reports that the fire is contained within its perimeter despite persistent active sectors on Claouey, Lanton, Le Porge and Lacanau. More than half of the 224,000 evacuated people have returned home. The Bordeaux Departmental Operations Center manages the crisis 24/7, with combined forestage and border treatment operations planned for Friday morning.
