US delivers first humanitarian flight to Cuba, first phase of $100 million aid package
Washington sent a humanitarian flight to Cuba carrying food and hygiene kits, marking the first phase of a $100 million aid package promised to the Cuban people. The aircraft departed from Miami in partnership with Catholic Relief Services, an American Catholic humanitarian organization. It carries supplies sufficient to help up to 700 families, with distribution managed by local parishes. This aid follows Hurricane Melissa, which struck Cuba in autumn 2025, and occurs amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Havana, marked by an embargo in place since 1962.
