Seelisberg Tunnel closed indefinitely after fatal crash on Switzerland’s A2
The Seelisberg Tunnel on Switzerland’s A2 is closed in both directions indefinitely after a fatal crash at about 3 a.m. on August 14, 2026. A vehicle registered in the canton of Uri struck the southern portal before entering a technical room and catching fire, severely damaging operating and safety infrastructure. The driver died at the scene. A second crash in the resulting congestion left two people seriously injured and six with minor injuries. Delays of about 45 minutes are expected. The TCS recommends diversions via Axenstrasse or the A13 San Bernardino route.
