André Lévy-Lang, former head of Paribas, dies aged 88
André Lévy-Lang, a banker and former head of Paribas, died on August 8, 2026, aged 88, according to Le Monde. A graduate of France’s École Polytechnique, he moved from industry into banking. In 1999, he was unable to prevent Paribas from merging with BNP after a six-month stock-market battle. Le Monde is currently the sole source reporting his death.
