Germany: Partial Solar Eclipse Expected Wednesday Evening
The Moon is expected to cover almost all of the Sun over Germany on Wednesday evening, although the eclipse will remain partial, Die Zeit reports. The event recalls the total solar eclipse seen in parts of Germany at midday on August 11, 1999, commonly nicknamed “SoFi.” More than 200 Die Zeit readers shared memories of the sudden cold, silent birds, pale light and striking quiet they experienced that day. Anyone watching Wednesday’s eclipse should use certified glasses bearing the CE mark. Improvised filters, including soot-blackened glass and X-ray film, are dangerous.
