Forest fires in the Var and Corsica during France's third heat wave of 2026
During the year's third heat wave, multiple forest fires broke out across southern France and Corsica on July 20, 2026. In Taradeau (Var), over 600 firefighters are battling the most violent fire, which remained uncontrolled at the end of the evening. One hundred fifty people have been evacuated and several homes destroyed. In Corsica, two simultaneous fires in the north of the island burned over 320 hectares near Albertacce. Fontainebleau Forest also lost approximately 2,000 hectares.
