Ukraine: Zelensky Fires Military Commander Syrsky, Appoints Drapaty
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky fired military commander-in-chief General Oleksandre Syrsky on Tuesday, according to Le Temps. Syrsky has been replaced by Mykhaïlo Drapaty, described as "popular." The dismissal comes amid tensions following the departure of Ukraine's Defense Minister and mass protests by thousands of Ukrainians calling for Syrsky's removal. Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in Kyiv a partnership to strengthen drone production in Ukraine. Ukraine will also be able to manufacture Patriot missiles.
